BJP stands for Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP is a Political Party existing in India. Currently, BJP is the ruling party in India. They have started a missed call membership program to increase their strength. Of course the idea seems brilliant. With more and more people using mobile phones, it is a good idea to rope in new members using just missed call! As per this plan, BJP is providing membership to Indian citizens who care to give missed call to a dedicated number.

Campaign’s Objective

BJP conducted a nation-wide membership drive inviting people from all communities to give a missed call and join the party. One of the objectives was to build a seamless platform through mobile and web medium for user registration. The campaign would help in creating unique membership number of user with general information.

CIL’s Solution

CIL welcomed the unique idea of BJP membership drive and dedicated a unique missed call number to join the party. The number on which one has to make missed call is: 8980808080. On dialing this number, the call will be disconnected automatically. This number is valid in case of each and every state in India. People from UTs (Union Territories) may also make use of this number.

As per the process, interested user can opt for registration by giving a missed call on the toll-free number. SMS with registration link is pushed to user. User clicks on the link, lands on the registration page, and fills the form. User’s unique membership ID is then shared via SMS and Email.

Outcome

With this campaign, BJP become world’s largest party with over 20 Crore Members. The CIL platform managed over 25 crore missed calls & counting, 5 Crore+ SMSes & counting, and digitized over 5 Crore Physical Forms received from media dark areas.
