On 14 March 2019, PM Narendra Modi responded to the political jibe of 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' by launching a campaign with the slogan 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' — symbolizing collective action against corruption. Modi rebranded his Twitter handle and coordinated with BJP leaders to do the same. The initiative expanded to supporters nationwide and included direct audio engagement with watchmen (chowkidars) across India.
Campaign's Objective
The PM aimed to address 25 Lakh chowkidars live, answer their questions, and integrate with ANI for simultaneous broadcast across television and digital platforms — creating an unprecedented direct connection between the PM and security personnel across India.
CIL's Solution
CIL deployed advanced audio bridge technology connecting thousands of security guards directly with the Prime Minister in a bidirectional live conference. Technical preparations included a 3-day exercise with PMO, secured ANI connectivity, and live connection of 25,000 locations with real-time national and international media coverage.
Outcome
This was the first ever conference connecting 25 Lakh audience members on a voice call directly with the Prime Minister. The interaction lasted over an hour with extensive media documentation and national coverage — a landmark moment in India's use of telecom technology for democratic engagement.
